For several generations in the artist's family baking and serving
homemade pies has been a means of welcoming newcomers into
homes and families. Though the gesture is a modest one, this
project promote some of the same sense of openness and goodwill
in a far more public sense during the UNFRINGED Festival. As is
the case with many of Scrupe's projects and interventions,
the basis for Pie Social is grounded in the idea of generosity as an
individual action, often carried out on a very small scale.
But such actions tend to promote other similar deeds, activating
a chain of goodwill which has the potential to extend infinitely.
